Very nice seeing the same problem presented with different techniques. It helps tie together increasingly sophisticated methods. Typical calculus curricula seems a series of unrelated problems.

I don't seem to get this, when multiplying the two partials together, shouldn't it be 2 dz/dx? But why is it only equal to 1? Or at least where does the total derivative formula come from?
