I Drive Public Transit/Busses for 40+ years, I still believe that in group transportation, that Public Transit systems make sense. Once the majority group of people have reached their destinations, this is where I find issues with the Public Transit system, Mostly empty busses keep going throughout the middle of the day with occasional passengers. As of yet, there are few Electric powered Busses, most are operating on Diesel, and spewing out toxic, high carbon producing exhaust. Plus Engine Heat!
A person who believes in Car-pooling, Driving themselves plus 3 or more others, is better for the environment, because when the workers, who need to travel to their work places, arriving at their destination, the Vehicle then is shut down till the return trip home! Where as a Bus keeps on going throughout the day, (spewing out toxic - high carbon producing exhaust.) encase a few people want to travel.
(an Idea of mine) For Commuting into Cities, or throughout the inner city to Work Sights/Areas, and from Rural areas, is Ferrying-LRT( Electric (Light-Rail-Transit Flat deck trains) which Load smaller personal Electric *vehicles at loading stations, and bring *them into inner urban centres, quickly, and efficiently, Keeping roads safe, and standardized regulated traffic flow into areas where the vehicles disembark, and complete their trip to their needed destination(s).
Saying that *walking through Cities is an under-Thought out 'old-world' idea! Not everyone is in superb shape! There is Elders, Physically Challenged, and many conditions that humans have, which make it a great difficulty to convey themselves on foot, or cycling, etc etc. Adding in Global Climate change, the New World climate being more intense, and harsh, from extremely hot days to weeks, to strong weather systems, that make personal physical conveyance unrealistic!

The traffic problem will never be solved.
As long as you have drivers who don’t care about lane appropriation, phone distractions, driving whatever speed they want, and not paying attention there will always be traffic.
You can add more lanes, express lanes, overpasses, etc. As long as you have those four factors it’s never changing.
I’ll also add that in states like Florida that the DMV doesn’t require you show them you can drive on roads dealing with actual scenarios. As long as you can do basic maneuvers in a parking lot here’s your drivers license.

When humans become more synchronized and less self-centered, then we might be able to develop individual mass transit. Imagine a humungous vintage hamster habitat with all of the tubes, vacuum propulsion, and data driven orbs to get people from point “A” to “?”. Sure it is science fiction and built within a Utopia society; however, get it right on earth and bring it to space. Hence in the next few centuries, orb travel will be second nature and people will enjoy the sanctuary of living in a bubble and human habitat.

I watched a video that said it’s not possible because as you open it up more people pass and are born it might be possible to make a tunnel and make it up and down the country straight 8 lines and you can stack them ?and you can collect the carbon as we transition to electric.

I think the problem is traffic lights that hold cars when no one is coming the other way! Flashing lights that allow cars to go when safe are ignored in favor of lights that are programmed to slow traffic and crate back-ups! I drive back roads where stop signs replace lights and have reduced my travel time by 10 to 20%! The GPS sucks because it sends the most drivers the way that has the most traffic! It almost always starts a trip by going to the most congested highway instead of down a empty back street that goes the same way! GPS is adding to the problem not fixing it! We are heading down the wrong PATH and it is getting worse! I have no hope that this will ever change because our leaders are stupid! The rules of the road are getting worse in that traffic is increasing not being relieved! SO DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO IMPROVE! Deal with the morons you have elected and the increasing mess they make!

Yt just recommended this to me and immediately clicked. Traffic frustrates the hell out of me. My Commute has a life of its own and I've started learning the fastest lanes to be in at certain moments in the morning.
