It’s not just Taylor wanting to protect them it’s all of us. I sure as hell wouldn’t want my texts being blasted from my best friend. Just think of the times you’re pissed or fighting with your significant other and you vent about everything. Say things to your best friend because you really don’t want to blast the people you’re pissed at. She’s like my therapist. You don’t break that code no matter what stage your friendship is in. I think that Blake asked her for support (whether she knew that the JB harrassment was real or not) but Taylor probably was put off by that request and started to distance herself from BL. Like how she has verbal diarrhea during interviews, she probably inundated Taylor with texts etc.
Which lead to Taylor cutting her off & just communicating thru lawyers.
I think the lawyer said it in a more lawyerly manner but Taylor knew that there was a threat behind it.

I looked it up and blackmail is a crime punishable by fines or imprisonment.

If Lively goes through with releasing the text messages, Taylor could sue Lively and Reynolds for every cent they are worth and leave them with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
