Starting to think I’m the only person who saw that Taylor had told a radio station or someone that the song was inspired from a conversation in a group of friends. One of the friends described how an exes new girlfriend had contacted her to ask if his behavior was the same when he was with her. The whole thing is fiction though a universal experience and the video is a fun murder mystery. It’s not always autobiographical.

I disagree, sorry. It's not about Joe. Even on Taylor's most confessional albums, she is not always just narrating her life as it happened. She spirals into what if's, plots revenge, fantasizes about different scenarios, and sometimes simply uses her own life to draw emotions and inspirations from but invents a completely brand-new story, like This is Me Trying, No Body No Crime, and plenty of other examples. I think your references to her previous work are correct but more in a theatrcial sense, like when a theater stage director re-uses the same decorations to stage a different scene. From a wedding to a funeral. It's just a correlation of certain aesthetics, and how the same thing can look so different when viewed through a mirror or a darker light.

This character Dakota plays doesn’t really drink (she made sure we knew that, by her telling us she only has one drink and still being clearheaded in the car), he poisoned everything he served to her.
2. The song is not about her & Joes relationship, Taylor has already said what it was about. And it’s pretty clear why she did that..
