I didn't always know about their controversies and when I found out sometimes I would do the mental gymnastics of defending them (to myself), not without criticism but so I could still enjoy their music and content because it literally helped me survive (dramatic, I know). I don't have social media and I haven't really been an active army for years. Now... with all this.. on top of everything else.. I'm so done, done in a way where I resign from the army after 13 years lol, I feel my emotional attachment to them and their work has been irreversibly severed.

They have an international career but don't take that into consideration when it comes to NOT doing things. If you're doing world tours with hundreds of thousands of people paying to see your music, you have the duty to stick your head out of South Korea and peep around. It's quite likely that Korean fans don't know or don't care about Chris Brown's crimes. But t most of their fans are *not* Korean.

So I did a quick search, and that was enough to make me feel sickened. I haven’t experienced violence myself, but I’m sure that a large number of the Army have. However, rather than demanding an apology from BTS, the right approach is to inform them about the problematic aspects of Chris Brown's behavior. Let me give you an example: just because Michael Jackson took a photo with Trump, it doesn't mean he endorsed the Epstein scandal, right? BTS does not maintain an ongoing relationship with Chris Brown; they simply went to enjoy the music. I hope people won't be too harsh on them, as their intentions were not malicious.

Yet the only thing they’ve done so far is do a bunch of manipulative posts with either photos of fans cheering them on (sending a signal to amass unconditional support) or thirst traps to feed the shippers so that they’ll flood the tags with edits and reposts about that instead. I don’t think they think very highly of their fans’s intelligence but then again, I wouldn’t either if they had been nothing but yesmen for the entirety of my career.

[ytcid:UgzrFtXb6dgcZwq6yGV4AaABAg] Everything recent is so disappointing to me as a long time fan of their work from about 2019. Now, I was VERY young when I first started listening to them, and am still quite young now. I understand back in 2013 there was a lot of things wrong with the overall industry and some of the members were literal teenagers and may have actually been told to do something because of management. RM speaking English fluently always rubbed me the wrong way when it came to the blatant racism, but I do understand that he did grow up in Korea and may not have understood fully about the damage that had been done. That I think is fair to still have held them accountable for, but because the members were all so young and under management, it isn’t fair to assume the blame is entirely on them. But currently, they are one of if not the biggest bands in the world. Ignoring the money aspect, their influence is international. AI could affect their careers, but it will never affect it to the same extent of someone who had just lost their job because companies felt AI could do it better. Or the people who live in these awful conditions created by the massive energy and water usage to use these generative AI tools. Some people ARE required to use them for work, and it is hypocritical to immediately hate on someone for the use of AI, but in creative spaces I think it is certainly justified to criticize as well as thinking about the sheer scale of the fan base. It’s incredibly disappointing. The youngest of them is pushing thirty, meaning all the members are well into their thirties or late twenties. I am much younger than they are, and I feel like they should, as grown men, start being held accountable for what they currently endorse. It does not make their past mistakes okay, but I think now it is even more important to hold them accountable and responsible for these matters, and stop pretending as though it isn’t that deep, as some would like to say.
